The main function of this division is to serve as the secretariat for several key committee meetings within the State of Penang. Its primary responsibility is to act as the secretariat for the State Planning Committee Meeting, which is chaired by the Right Honourable Chief Minister, with the Director of the Town and Country Planning Department of Penang serving as the Secretary/Advisor.
The State Planning Committee Meeting typically involves the presentation of working papers, including policy papers, development plans (rezoning), applications under Section 20A, and planning permission applications.
All rezoning cases must first be discussed at the State Technical Planning Committee Meeting. This division acts as the secretariat for the State Technical Planning Committee Meeting before the working papers are submitted and deliberated at the State Planning Committee level.
The Corporate and Appeals Board Division also serves as the secretariat for the State Executive Council (MMK) Committee on Town Planning. Matters discussed mainly relate to reports on applications submitted through the OSC Units of MPPP and MPSP for the State of Penang.
